And So It Begins

36×48 Oil on Canvas.

Aptly named, this painting was one of the first oil paintings that I created after I decided to embrace my calling and create art professionally. I set up, locked myself in my office, and just painted for almost 8 hours straight. This painting was me learning how to trust the flow of inspiration and paint, and as I got lost in my work, a resounding voice echoed in my head excitedly repeating “And so it begins…”

Able to be viewed from any orientation, this work challenges your mind to create meaning from textures and shapes that are illusive; substantial but not concrete. Once you are satisfied with the meaning you have pulled from the painting, turn it a different way and allow your mind to create new meaning from simply viewing it from a different angle. This is a skill that would perhaps serve us well if we practiced a little bit more.
