My 2020 Vision (Haha)

Full disclosure, I have written and re-written this post about 5 times. No matter how many times I write it, I feel like I am being overly “YAY IT’S THE NEW YEAR LET’S TALK ABOUT OUR GOALS FOR THE YEAR!!!”

So at the risk of seeming annoying, LET’S TALK ABOUT OUR GOALS FOR THE YEAR!!!

New Year, New You?

The beginning of the year is a time many people set drastic New Year’s Resolutions. New Year, New You! Right? Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but the New Year does not bring a clean slate with it. You are still the same person, influenced by the same lifetime of choices and experience as you were at the end of 2019. What the New Year, New You mantra does not account for is acceptance of the person that you are. You do not need to be a New You. Even if you want something in your life to be different, it starts with accepting who you are, right now, in this moment.

Start with acknowledging the progress you have made in your journey right now. What did you get done this last year? What progress did you make? Any accomplishments to celebrate? Did you dream a little bigger? Did you quit a toxic job or relationship? Did you take steps towards creating your dream? Did you choose to let past anger go? Did you forgive someone? How about yourself? Did you chose love over hate? Did you take a trip? Share a cup of coffee with a loved one? Whatever happened this year that was positive, take a moment to reflect on it and celebrate it.

Harness Potential Energy

Though the New Year does not bring a clean slate, what it does bring is the opportunity to harness the potential energy that is stored in the world around you right now. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, right now is Winter. Energy is currently being stored all around you, waiting for the right time to start the process of new life all around us. Now is the time to get clear on your direction for the year. Now is the time to state what you want this year to bring. Now is the time to make an action plan to make that happen. By getting clear now, you will be ready to harness the energy of spring as it comes upon us.

What do you want to create this year? What do you want to be celebrating on your list of accomplishments next year? This year for me is about accountability, consistency, flexibility, and understanding. I will get more art in different venues. I will be more involved in the art community and my local community as well. I will continue to provide for my family through my art and teaching. I will continue my path of self-growth, healing, and expansion. I will continue to educate myself on children and how to best communicate with them.

I am so excited to be here in 2020. Let’s make some ART!
